Quadra Island – Travel Sketching etc

Wed 8th June – It was so nice to get away for a few days. Quadra Island proved to be the most lovable of all the BC Coastal Islands that we have visited. The Travel Sketching workshop was enjoyable having learned a lot including my first successful cloud painting. April Point Resort was disappointing, quite out of date, especially their cuisine. I found it unimaginative with to much of salt used. We shall return to Quadra for another break but next time we will go to Tsa.Kwa.Luten Resort  ( http://www.capemudgeresort.com/ ).

The Magic of the Mask

Friday 3 rd June – Yesterday was a a long day for me. I left the house at quarter to Seven heading South to Victoria, a 2 hour drive, for a workshop with Herb Rice ( http://www.coastsalishjourney.com/ )  at Lee Valley Tool store starting at 9 am. What a day it turned out to be. Herb is a fine teacher and a wonderful emissary for his Coast Salish people. Our assignment was the “Eagle Warrior Mask” . Whilst it would not be possible for most carvers to complete such a project in one day we all left all smiles with our unfinished blocks and enough information to complete the project at home or since Herb has offered to open his workshop at Whippletree Junction to his students on Sundays it may be finished under his tutelage there.
